Surf-N-Turf

This past Saturday, October 26th, we held our 2nd annual, Furr Family, Surf-N-Turf.  Just as last year, the annual Surf-N-Turf turned out to be another great success!

Again this year we decided to rent another bounce house.  The kids and the adults had so much fun on it last year, that we decided a bounce house was another must for this year!

We held the 2013 Surf-N-Turf at Amy and Jared's house again this year.  I had arrived a little earlier to help set up while Casey stayed home with Mason while Mason finished up his afternoon nap.  At about 5:15 Casey and Mason arrived.  Case immediately took Mason out to the bounce house.  Mason had so much fun even though he was feeling a little under the weather.

Daniel would send Mason down the slide and Casey would catch him at the bottom.  This one time as Daniel sent Mason down Mason leaned a little too forward and ended up doing summer salts down the slide.  Casey quickly picked Mason up to find Mason with a big smile on his face.  The summer salts down the slide didn't even phase our little Mason.
It kind of looks like Mason is crying in this picture, but he is smiling and laughing.

After everyone had arrived, Daniel and Stacy announced their BIG news!  Stacy is due with baby BOY #3 in April 2014.  We are so excited for them!

At about 6:00 it was time for dinner.  We call this party Surf-N-Turf because of the food.  The Surf part comes from the fish, King crab, and shrimp that was served.  Casey and I aren't really seafood people so we stayed clear from the Surf food that was served.  The Turf comes from the "yummy meat" prepared by Jared, which includes ribs and steak.  The meal also consisted of: rolls, jello salad, green salad, Tang and Fruit Punch Slurpees, and chips and nacho cheese.  Case and I hadn't eaten anything all day so we would be so hungry for dinner that night.  We stuffed ourselves silly with all the food there was to eat.

During dinner it was getting a little cold and our little Mason wasn't handling it to well.  I took him inside to play where he enjoyed playing with Legos the rest of the night.

After everyone was done with dinner, we cleaned up and went inside.  Since we were all together we decided to celebrate October birthdays, Dad's, Lydia's 6th birthday and Ashley's 1st birthday, along with Jared's birthday which was the end of September.  These birthday people were definitely spoiled, the present table looked like Christmas morning!

Lydia is really into My Little Pony lately.  Meg made her these cute My Little Pony masks.  Everyone had fun trying them on.

Parks insisted the Rainbow Dash mask was his Batman mask.  He makes a pretty cute Rainbow Dash Batman!

After opening all the presents, it was time for dessert.  Myrn and Garret had made an assortment of desserts to meet all the wishes of the birthday people.  They made Carmel apples for dad, pumpkin pie for Jared, and Rainbow Dash and Minnie Mouse cupcakes for Lydia and Ashley.  They also made cherry cordial flavored popcorn to munch on.  Everything was delicious!  Bud especially loved licking the frosting off the cupcakes.

After dessert Case and I took our little grumpy Mason home.  Our poor little guy, I wish he would've felt better for the Surf-N-Turf.

The annual Surf-N-Turf pretty much wraps up our fall festivities.  We're so sad it's over, but we have so much to look forward to with all the fun the holidays bring.

Pumpkin Patch

Fall Break for Nebo School District was a week and a half ago, October 10-11.  Casey decided to take Friday, October 11th off work and spend the whole day with our little family.

Casey surprised Mason and me by taking us to a pumpkin patch in Springville, he also invited his mom who brought along  Uncle Phil and Aunt Cait.  We had a great time spending the morning with family at the pumpkin patch.

We first visited the small petting zoo.  When I say small, I mean very small!  The petting zoo consisted of about 5 animals:  a small pig, a goat that was born with only 3 legs, a very large fat pig, a donkey-Mason's favorite, and a llama.  I'm not sure where Mason got his love for animals, he was loving petting the small animals and letting the animals lick his little fingers.  Don't worry, Casey was prepared with about 10 disinfectant wipes to wipe Mason's hands with after he touched the animals! :)

After the petting zoo, we decided to hop on the tractor ride.  The tractor ride took you around the farm to view all the pumpkins.  Mason rode on Phil's lap during the tractor ride and he loved every minute of it.

After the tractor ride we took Mason through the haunted house, which consisted of a few pieces of white fabric hanging from the ceiling to look like ghosts.  I'm glad it wasn't too scary for mine and Mason's sake.

After the haunted house we went and picked out a pumpkin for Mason to take home.

There was only one worker working the whole farm.  He was doing the tractor rides, selling pumpkins and watching over every thing else.  Mason found a pumpkin just as the worker decided to take another round with the tractor, so while Casey and Roz were patiently waiting for him to return Phil played with Mason on this large mound of hay.

After buying pumpkins and playing on the large mound of hay we headed over towards the pit of corn.  The pit of corn was a large area that was full of corn kernels.  We had fun burying Mason in the corn kernels.  We had to watch Mason very carefully because he would try to eat the corn kernels.

After playing in the corn kernels for about 30 minutes we decided it was time to take our little guy home and put him down for a nap.  After taking him home, we changed his clothes and found corn kernels everywhere:  in the hood of his sweat shirt, in his pocket  of his pants, down his onesie, in his shoes, and down his diaper!  Mason took a long nap after being worn out from all the fun at the pumpkin patch.

We had so much fun spending the day with family at the pumpkin patch.  We are so glad Casey had the day off so he could spend the day with us!  Although, I don't like the weather changing, the fact that I have to put away all our summer clothes, and looking out our front window and seeing snow all over the mountains, I love this time of year because there are so many fun fall festivities.  We're looking forward to spending more time with family doing more fun things this fall!!

13 Months

Our little Mason is 13 Months old today.  We are totally in love with this curious, happy, loving, boy of ours!
Teeth:  This little guy has been one unhappy boy the last couple of days, come to find out more molars are coming in.  Poor guy!
Sleeping:  Ever since our camping trip to Capital Reef, Mason has been sleeping through the night on a regular basis.  Every now and then there is a night that he'll wake up in the middle of the night, but not very often:)  We usually put Mason to bed around 8:30, if possible, and he'll usually sleep until 8 in the morning.  Mason also takes 2, 2 hour naps during the day, one in the morings and one in the afternoon.
Talking:  This little guy talks all day, although we're still not understanding much.
Eating:  Mason is pretty much off all baby food.  He'll eat pretty much anything.  I've noticed that he'll chow down on something and then I'll try to give it to him again within the next couple of days and he won't eat it.  He is definitely becoming more picky and more aware of what he is eating.  When he doesn't like something or he is full, he'll start throwing the food off his tray on this highchair to the floor (a habit we're desperately trying to break).  Sometimes Mason can have a big appetite and other times Mason will barely eat anything.
Movement:  Mason is still crawling everywhere and getting into everything.  When he pulls himself up on things he is starting to walk himself along the item like the coach or fireplace.  Mason loves to be where people are.  There can be a million toys in one room and he'll crawl to the other room just so he doesn't have to be in the room by himself.
Other:  We sure are starting to notice a personality in this little guy of ours.  He is very kind and friendly and doesn't seem to be too shy.  Mason is very conscious of others feelings.  The other day a nephew was crying and Mason crawled over to him and handed him his binky and blanket.  Mason loves to play with his cousins.  He gets so excited every time he sees them.  He sometimes can be the toy stealer, whatever toy any of the kids are playing with, he wants to play with it too.  When we're at home Mason loves to play with the magnets on the fridge and he also likes to crawl around the house and make sure all the doors, drawers, and cupboards are closed.

We love our little guy!

Mason's One Year Pictures

A couple weeks ago we took some one year pictures of our little guy.  I love the way they turned out and I think our little Mason looks so handsome in all of them.

September Happenings

September blew by so quickly and we can't believe it's already October.  We're not sure if we're ready for colder weather around here, but we're excited to see what October has to bring.

Here are a few of the small (that didn't already get blogged about) things we did during the month of September.

1. We had to say good-buy to our summer/fall flowers.  Our hanging baskets, potted plants, and planted flowers turned out so pretty this year, I'm so sad for this time of year when it's time to throw them away.

I love the little yellow flowers on this one, they just started popping out recently.  We didn't even get to enjoy those little yellow flowers for very long.

2.  We've been having way too much fun around here with Mason's birthday train.  Mason loves Casey to push him on his birthday train up and down the hallway.  I love to hear our little guy laugh while Casey pushes him!  It's fun to watch Casey too, he's pretty worn out by about the third or fourth round but he keeps going because our little Mason loves it so much!

3.  We spent a Saturday night down at the Riverwoods with Ry, Meg, Mabel, Mom, Dad, Daniel, Stacy, Canyon, and Oakley.  We went to dinner at Bajio then we went over to the Provo Beach Resort to play a few games.  Because of the Ute vs. BYU game the Provo Beach Resort was closed so we ended up going to Blikenstaff's instead.  We had fun playing with all the trinkets and toys, Mason got the biggest laughs from the Jack-in-the-Box.

4.  I finished Project Life!    I have enjoyed putting this picture a day scrapbook together for the past year and I finished it this month.  I started it on the day Mason was born and ended on the day of Mason's first birthday.  It's been so fun to look back on all the things we've and all that has happened over the past year.  I'm definitely starting a new one for 2014.

5.  Found Mason sleeping like this...

6.  Mason never falls asleep in my arms anymore:(, but this day...it was cold...it was rainy...and this little guy needed someone to cuddle up to.

7. We gave Mason his first taste of whole milk, he loves it!  We stopped buying formula for this little guy in September and he is down to only one bottle a day.  I didn't think I'd be sad, but I am.

8.  Took Mason to the car wash where he cried the entire time, but as soon as we got to where we would vacuum out our car he calmed right down.  This child is scared of most unusual loud noises, except for vacuums.

9.  Mason's taken lots of baths around here, I just love a clean baby!  He loves to just sit in the tub and chew on his wash cloth.  We know when he is ready to get out, because he has learned how to pull himself up to standing while he is in the tub.

10.  During the month of September Mason also learned to crawl up onto the fireplace.

Good-bye September...Hello October!
