Celebrating Mason's Birthday (Part 1)

Sunday, September 8 we celebrated Mason's FIRST birthday with the Mecham family.  We originally planned to celebrate his birthday with the Mecham family on Labor day, but because of his cold, virus, and ear infection, the party had to be postponed.

We started the evening out with a BBQ dinner.  Casey was an excellent chef and cooked some delicious hot dogs, hamburgers and brats.

After dinner grandma and grandpa Mecham gave Mason his present.  Obviously, Mason was a little confused to what was going on, but as soon as the present was opened and put together Mason was full of pure excitement.

After Mason opened his present it was time to sing Happy Birthday to our little guy.

After Mason, with the help of mom, blew out the candle, we lit it again and sang Happy Birthday to Casey.  Happy 29th Birthday Case!

After cake and ice cream was served it was time for Mason to try some cake.  I really didn't want Mason to eat a lot of cake.  Mason had been so sick and it had taken him FOREVER to get better so I wanted him to stay as close to his regular eating schedule as possible so we might have a chance at him sleeping through the night.  I also didn't want Mason to get really messy, (I know, I'm no fun at this motherhood stuff) so I just gave him a small cupcake to dig into.
At first Mason just picked the cupcake up and then would drop it onto his tray, then he started to squish it, which made him laugh really hard.

Then he started to break off little chunks and throw them all over the floor.

Finally he started to eat a little bit of the cupcake.

My plan worked perfectly.  Most of the cupcake ended up on the floor so little got eaten and when all was said and done our little guy wasn't too messy.

The night ended with a quick trip to the tub, saying our good-byes to all Mason's party guests, watching a few minutes of Tangled, then off to bed.

Thanks Mecham family for making this day special for our little guy and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our little Mason!

The birthday celebrations for Mason will continue...so stay tuned!
